The Mount Stapylton Vineyard is a boutique vineyard located in the picturesque Northern Grampians, 2km west of Mount Stapylton and 30km south east of Horsham in Western Victoria.
The vineyard was established by Howard and Samantha Staehr in 2002 and with the rich loamy soil and warm to hot climate, it is ideal for premium shiraz wine production.
The production of high quality fruit through good viticulture practices and low yields, together with our winemaker Don McRae with over thirty years experience, we have produced some of the highest quality shiraz in the world.
The Mount Stapylton Shiraz has won gold and silver medals in the International Wine Challenge in Vienna, receiving gold in 2011 and 2008 with the second highest points in the shiraz section of the competition. It has also won a silver medal best in class at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London and has received 92 points from James Halliday in the Australian Wine Companion.
At the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London the wine judge's comments on the Mount Stapylton Shiraz were"Deep opaque purple crimson colour, flavours, violet, raspberry and plumb over white pepper, and bursting with concentrated fruit flavours."
The 2009 vintage endured extreme summer heat (one week of temperatures between 45 to 47 degrees Celsius) and it is a great example of warm climate Australian Shiraz.
The 2009 Shiraz is nicely balanced, deep purple with concentrated flavours of raspberry, plum, vanilla, chocolate and spice, with a smooth and satisfying finish.
The 2010 vintage has just been released and it is another great vintage - may be our best to date.
Our shiraz is unique, as our vineyard is in a unique part of the Grampians Wine Region and with different soil and climatic conditions, the wine exhibits intense fruit flavours and other special characteristics.
Each vintage is aged in French and American Oak.

Shiraz Vintages -2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010
These vintages produced low yields and excellent quality concentrated fruit. The wine has been aged in French and American oak for just over twelve months and has developed into a rich and smooth Shiraz. It has a deep purple/crimson colour with a cherry and vanilla bouquet and displays rich berry flavours. Cellaring and decantering will further enhance this wine.
The winemaker is Mr Don McRae from Horsham who has over 30 years experience in the wine industry in Victoria and holds a Wine Science Degree from the Charles Stuart University in Wagga Wagga.
